Anchor-Richey EVS, Owner History
W. Matthew Richey, President
Bill McCormick, Vice President
Anchor-Richey Emergency Vehicle Services is a family operated business that incorporated in 1996 lead by co-owners, Matthew Richey as President and Bill McCormick as Vice President. However, their relationship began long before 1996.
In 1967, Bill left Hickory IHC Truck Sales, where he worked as a diesel mechanic, in order to purchase a small truck stop offering service and engine repair. In 1970 he started offering light to heavy trucks for sale as Anchor Truck Sales, in Hickory, NC, and soon after hired Matthew as a welder and truck mechanic. In 1979 Matthew purchased 5 road tractors and leased them to a local freight company. After selling the trucks in 1984, Matthew started Richey Truck Repair as a diesel maintenance and metal fabrication shop, all from the current location, in Taylorsville, NC.
After several years of working with and for each other on numerous projects, the two made the decision in 1996 to formally merge as Anchor-Richey Emergency Vehicle Services, Inc., operating fully from the Taylorsville, NC facility. The merger has enabled the company to offer superior quality products and to provide enhanced customer service and efficiency.
Since then, Anchor-Richey EVS, Inc. has been making history. With the knowledge and background of the co-owners, they provide a service that no one else in the area can compete with…. most any job under one roof, start to finish. Anchor-Richey EVS is a small to medium fire apparatus builder and a refurb/repair facility for emergency apparatus with all the “fixin’s” to go with it.
Two major divisions of Anchor-Richey EVS are the Fabrication and Assembly Shops led by Shop Foreman, Dannie Ritchie. Dannie is a certified Level 1 Fire Apparatus Technician and has worked with Matthew for over 20 years. Everything is fabricated from flat sheet metal and completed in house to whatever the project specifications may be. These shops house a 16 ft. press break, a 12 ft. press break, a 12 ft. sheer and a 10 ft. sheer, along with all types of welding and machining equipment. With a total of three overhead cranes in the facility, no job is too large.
Another vital division is the Service Shop, managed by Technician Bradley Helms, son-in-law of Matthew. Bradley is ASE and EVT Certified. A-R EVS provides routine preventative maintenance and major pump and mechanical repairs at the shop or on-site at the customer’s department. The service facility, as well as the mobile Service Trailer, is fully stocked and equipped to resolve any issues that may arise, including emergency calls.
The Body Repair and Paint Division, originally the “Anchor” part of Anchor-Richey EVS, is a state-of-the-art body shop with a spray booth large enough to accommodate large ladder trucks. PPG brand paint products are used by two of the most particular body men in town who recognize customer high expectations. (Both technicians are also experienced in classic vehicle restorations.)
To ensure all the shops and customers have what they need, there’s the Parts Department. There, you’ll find all types of “hard to find” parts as well as popular items such as emergency lights, valves, adaptors, hose, nozzles, traffic control items, fire helmets, boots, pike poles, ladders, batteries, representing all major brand name manufacturers. Most any equipment or part involving the Fire / Emergency service is offered facilitated by two full-time parts and equipment specialists. Anchor-Richey is an OEM Dealer, so the prices are hard to beat.
The Apparatus Sales team, including Bill’s son, Jim McCormick, has over 31 years combined experience in the Fire/Emergency Apparatus sales industry. This experience and knowledge allows the Anchor-Richey team to offer a complete line of vehicles and equipment to meet the diverse needs of all its customers.
Tying all of these divisions together is the Administrative Office. All accounting, advertising, marketing, and organizational duties are performed in house by a skilled office staff, which includes all three of Matthew’s daughters.
All of the employees at A-R are encouraged to participate in the creative process, allowing the company to remain on the cutting edge of industry innovation and service. With their combined thoughts and ideas, almost nothing is impossible. By the grace of God, along with the vision of Matthew and Bill for Anchor-Richey EVS, the business has come a long way since its humble beginnings years ago. Their hope for continued growth and success is ensured by way of dedicated employees, loyal customers and quality products.
